Tell us about Cellares. When was the company founded and what was the driving force?
Cellares was founded in 2019 with the goal to make cell therapy a widely available and affordable treatment option for patients.
According to Cellares' website, "Cellares is working to make cell therapy widely available and affordable...with a flexible and scalable manufacturing solution and fully-integrated software." Can you tell us a little bit more about what this means?
Cell therapy is a type of personalized medicine that is a very promising treatment option for certain types of cancers, among other diseases. Currently, they are produced using a labor-intensive, manual process that cannot come close to scaling to meet patient demand so many patients that could benefit greatly from this type of treatment do not survive the wait time to receive it.
Cellares' focus is on the "Cell Shuttle" Who or what was the pioneer behind this?
The Cell Shuttle and our GMP-in-a-Box Cartridge is our pioneering solution to the problems that exist today for cell therapy manufacturing. Manual production facilities have to be high-level clean rooms so our Cell Shuttle is an enclosed clean room that can be housed in a less strict and costly manufacturing space. The reliance on manual processes means a reliance on people performing repetitive tasks, putting strain on the production workforce needing to wear full PPE for long periods, requiring a disproportionate investment in headcount to scale, and can invite human error into the process. The fully automated nature of our Cell Shuttle helps to alleviate these issues and will help the industry scale to meet patient demand.
What do the next 5 years look like for Cellares?
We are focused on the growth and commercialization of our product. Our company is dedicated to getting to market as quickly as possible to support the growing need of patients to access these life-saving treatments. Keep an eye out for us in the news, big things are coming!
